So, I went to support my other favourite twins last night at their record release party in Hollywood….. I live in venice so obviously this was a mission…. ok, not really- but in my world -a real commitment. I have been a madden brothers fan since they were Good Charlotte and long before I knew them, thanks to a family friend who got my nyc music snob self to listen past the pop songs on the radio. not to dismiss those songs- there was a reason they were on the radio- they were great pop songs.
Anyway- we ended up dj’ing a party together in sundance 8 or 9 years ago and I noticed a Ben Lee cd in their collection, alongside Rancid and Biggie, and I was instantly sold on these two tattooed, grumpy looking punks. Coz I knew that anyone who could love Ben Lee’s music must be pretty awesome. As it turns out…. they were and they are.
Over the last few years I have found that the grumpy looks are just a lock on a door- it doesn’t take more than one listen to their music to know they have sweet dorky hearts and if you haven’t ever listened to their music- you should.
their new album is a really beautiful collection of songs- their best, yet. From the time I first heard a demo of Good Gracious Abbey almost two and a half years ago I have been looking forward to hearing what else they would have to offer and I am so happy for them and impressed….
i’m writing this blog because I know people post all the time- “check out my homies new blah blah blah blah” but this one I truly mean- Benji and Joel performed an acoustic set last night and I was blown away- such a magical show…. i am so happy for them- and hope they are proud of themselves- because they deserve to be. anyway- that’s all- do yourself a favour and check out the album.
